The South-South Cooperation Council (SSCC) proudly took part in the international forum titled “Solidarity in Action: Strengthening Global South NGOs for a New and Fair World”, held on April 28–29, 2025, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This landmark event convened over 200 NGO leaders and civil society representatives from 116 countries, collectively representing approximately 80% of the global population.
Representing SSCC were Youth Ambassador Juan Pablo Merchán Arango, UNESCO Artist for Peace and President of Earthsavers Philippines Cecile Guidote Álvarez, and human rights advocate Dewy Sacayan. Their active participation in various panels underscored SSCC's commitment to fostering inclusive development, cultural diplomacy, and youth empowerment across the Global South.
The forum featured thematic discussions such as “Global South Rising: The Bandung Spirit and the Right for Sovereign Futures”, “No More Double Standards: NGOs as Catalysts for Fair Development in the Global South”, and “Bridging Borders: D-8 Collaboration for a Prosperous Future”. These sessions highlighted the pivotal role of NGOs in addressing shared challenges and promoting equitable growth.
A significant outcome of the forum was the establishment of the Global South NGO Platform, with its headquarters designated in Baku. Azerbaijan assumed the chairmanship of this platform, following the consensus of participating NGOs. This initiative, supported by over 1,000 organizations from 140 countries, aims to institutionalize collaboration among NGOs to implement joint projects and share best practices.
SSCC's engagement in this forum reinforces its dedication to enhancing solidarity and cooperation among Global South nations. By contributing to dialogues and initiatives that promote sustainable development and social justice, SSCC continues to play a vital role in shaping a more equitable global landscape.
